Recycling Food Waste
Some people don’t recycle food waste as they don’t like the smell or mess especially in summer but it’s very easy to do and you can keep your bin and kitchen caddy clean at the same time.
Use a compostable liner bag in your caddy and simply tie up the bag when the caddy is nearly full. Place the full bag into the green bin or 23l caddy. Look for the leaf logo on the bags to show that it is compostable.
Biodegradable isn’t the same thing and should not be used.
Alternatively you could line your kitchen caddy with newspaper which works just as well. When almost full simply wrap up the food scraps and put in the green wheelie bin.
Putting all food waste into the green wheelie bin or 23l lockable caddy means you won’t have any ripped black bags to clear up as there’s nothing to attract the animals to the bag.
Animals like foxes, birds, cats and rats are all attracted to the food smells coming from bags and will rip them open to get at the food.
Did you know?
You can also put your real Christmas tree in the green wheelie bin too minus any decorations. If the tree is too large either cut it into smaller sections or lean against the green bin for collection.
